BEAR-LY HERE PROJECT

"Climate change is affecting all of us, but the polar ice caps in a big way. The sea ice is where the polar bears hunt for their food, breed and live. Scientist predict that in 20 - 30 years there will be no ice in the polar region during the summer which will inevitably mean that the polar bears’ way of life as we know it will disappear too.
The disappearance of the sea ice will predictably welcome other species to the region but where will the polar bears go? And how will they survive?"

The project
Bear-ly here is a project that will hopefully bring awareness to the changes that are happening in our world due to the affects our daily lives have on the earth’s temperature and how we can minimize it. Are we prepared? The sea is rising, islands are disappearing and our coast-lines are receding. Who knows, perhaps one day in the very near future your plight will be that of the polar bears...

In fact, for some, that day has already come. The population of Kiribati, one of the low-lying Pacific nations,  are threatened by rising sea levels and are forced to contemplate relocating to man-made islands or becoming permanent immigrants in neighbouring countries. This project hopes to raise questions as to how we are prepared for that future and to also realise that where ever and whom ever we are, the changes affect us all.

Who can participate?
Creativity does not exist explicitly in the fields of arts and form. People in every line of work must come up with new ideas and insights in order to move ahead. Therefore we look forward to seeing the polar bear being passed on to like-minded regardless of profession on its journey towards the arctic.

Tips
If you're stuck portraying your bear's stay, here are som tips.
If you did not know what polar bears were, what kind of setting would you imagine them in? How would they react to this milieu? Would they look the same? Are you in the same situation as the polar bear?
What would you like show of your place, town, milieu, or how you live? Would it adapt?
Why not show the bear how you lessen emissions or alert it to environmental culprits?
